Online 09 - Top Tips to Avoid Damaging your Brand
What's it about?
![]()
Online 09 is our overview of some of the principal opportunities and challenges for a business with an internet presence. We will be presenting our thoughts and some practical guidance at a seminar on 09.09.09.
We will cover the following areas:
Branding: Keep your competitive advantage
Protecting your reputation by preserving your brand
In the race to win key customers, businesses everywhere are seeking a competitive advantage. For some unscrupulous businesses, that may mean trading on your reputation. Technology makes it very easy for your customers to inadvertently end up at a competitor's website instead of your own. It is not so much a case of can your afford to protect your brand, but rather, can you afford not to?
We will explore the use of branding on the internet, both visible (branding and logos, trade and domain names) and invisible (meta tags and search engine optimisation) and consider what steps you can take to protect your brand and reputation online.
Security: Keeping yourself online and compliant
How to avoid third party threats and self-inflicted
risks
Your IT system is not only at risk from outsiders (hacking, viruses, denial of service attacks and more) but you may be inadvertently increasing your exposure in your day to day use of the system.
We will look at the most common threats to your IT system and the steps that you can take to protect your business.
There is a raft of regulation regarding business on the net. Do you know what affects you and whether you are compliant? We will tell you what to look out for.
Facebook: The business of blogging
Love it, or loathe it but you can't ignore it
Many businesses are embracing social networking sites such as Facebook, Bebo and My Space as a means of promoting their business. For others, social networking is an unwelcome distraction eating time out of the working day.
We will consider the implications of social networking sites from an employer's perspective and give guidance as to your rights and obligations.
Data Protection in a nutshell
What you need to know to avoid a fine
Since its introduction at the start of the Millennium, the Data Protection Act has become one of the most widely quoted (and frequently misquoted) pieces of legislation. With high profile coverage in the press, it can be confusing for businesses to work out how to comply with their obligations, but failure to comply could result in an expensive fine or even imprisonment.
We will provide an update on recent developments and guidance from the Information Commissioner and consider the key practical steps that can be taken to avoid falling foul of the legislation.
All delegates will receive a free report about thier own website following the seminar.
