Swine flu is spreading and employers need to prepare for a swine flu outbreak. For years, Britain has been preparing for the possibility of a flu pandemic and the UK government claims the country is equipped to cope with the worst case scenario.

Key facts
- Swine flu was confirmed in the UK in April 2009 and has spread to more than 100 countries around the world.
- Swine flu was declared a global pandemic on 12th June 2009 after the World Health Organisation raised the alert status of the virus to the highest level on its six-phase scale.
- It has been suggested that businesses may be without 30-50% of their workforce at the peak of this pandemic.
