Wealth Protection Update Seminar
What's it about?
This is the second in a series of seminars designed for
financial services professionals to update you on relevant new law
and targets areas where your work crosses over with ours to add
real value for your clients.
The Supreme Court are due to hand down their judgment in the key
cohabitation case of Kernott v Jones imminently. We will set out
the key issues before the court and how they could impact on your
clients.
Tax efficient wealth planning is an issue that drives clients in
both of our sectors. The private client department will set out
some key considerations for your clients regarding current
inheritance tax planning strategies.
Finally, we will summarise where discretionary trusts stand when
there is a divorce. Clients are increasingly aware of the potential
risks in this area and we will provide a round up of recent case
law and some practical tips to take to your clients.

Speakers
Philip Barnsley is a partner in the
firm and head of the family department. He specialises in all
aspects of matrimonial law and is highly regarded particularly when
dealing with complex financial matters. Philip is also a trained
Collaborative Family Lawyer.
Philip will lead the update, with assistance from his team and from
partners from the private client department.
The private client department at Higgs & Sons is one of the
most significant in the Midlands in terms of both size and
turnover. Peter Gosling, Robert Leek, Nick Moxon and Lucy
Obrey oversee a team that deals with the whole spectrum of private
client work to include the preparation and completion of wills and
trusts which cover issues arising in relation to succession,
protection and inheritance tax planning. In addition, the
department have a number of specialists in probate and trust
administration and a team able to advise on all care and capacity
issues.
