EventsHiggs announces hospice partnership
01/03/2009
A leading Black Country law firm is hoping to swell the coffers
at the Mary Stevens Hospice by £10,000, after agreeing to raise
money for the Stourbridge charity throughout the year.
Staff at Higgs & Sons, with offices in Stourbridge, Brierley
Hill and Kingswinford, chose the hospice following 12 months of
fundraising activities for Macmillan Cancer Support in 2008.
Louise Taylor, chairman of Higgs & Sons' charity committee
said: "Mary Stevens Hospice is a local charity that does amazing
work, relying heavily on fundraising and donations. I hope that we
will be able to help them continue with this work as well as raise
awareness as to the work that they do in our local community.
"Higgs & Sons will be able to offer Mary Stevens Hospice, not
just our money from events we will be holding throughout the coming
year, but also our time and effort helping with their
initiatives."
Mary Stevens Hospice's fundraising development manager Janet Jones
was delighted with the news, and expressed her excitement over the
new charity partnership.
She said: "We are over the moon to have been chosen as Higgs'
official charity. It is a local company with three offices in the
area, so it is an ideal relationship and we look forward to working
with them.
"The current running costs to maintain our high level of care to
patients with life-limiting illness and to support their families
is £2.2m for the year.
"This has to be funded mainly from public support. It is therefore
vital that we continue to raise funds in a variety of ways to
ensure we can continue to enrich our patients' lives whilst living
with a terminal illness.
"We have a big challenge on our hands, but we will meet it through
support from local companies like Higgs & Sons."
