Higgs aiming for electronic excellence after recruiting IT director.

An innovative IT expert is promising to revolutionise the way a leading Midland law firm operates, after being appointed as the company's new IT director.

Stephen Brown , aged 27, has been appointed by Higgs & Sons and is already promising to transform the way the company works by providing 'the best legal IT system in the country in the next five years.'

Higgs believe that an improved IT strategy will lead to more efficiency and speed when dealing with clients, allowing them to access more case information when they want.

Stephen has already won acclaim for his work at Ricksons, which he positioned as one of the UK's first law firms to use extra-net facilities, which allowed solicitors to view their own case information through an on-line portal.

He also introduced an 'e-suite' application for use with domestic conveyancing which provided online, real-time web updates for the department, which was otherwise unheard of.

He then moved on to LexisNexis as a professional services consultant and is now looking forward to the managerial side of his role at Higgs.

Stephen said the challenge of working at Higgs was too good to refuse and immediately planned to secure more lofty achievements for the company.

He said: "What makes Higgs unique is the fact that the firm recognises that IT is now fundamental in business. They need clear IT strategies to improve their service to clients, which is where I will be assisting.

"The one thing that I am absolutely confident about is that in the next five years, Higgs will have the best IT system in place, with one of the best users of IT in the legal sector.

"Identifying, buying and installing systems is the easy part for me. The difficulty is getting people to work in innovative ways. At the end of the day, I am here to provide real benefit to all of Higgs' clients and I am looking forward to the challenge."

Stephen, who now lives in Wollaston, said he was confident of revolutionising Higgs' use of IT.

He added: "Historically, Higgs has grown organically with little IT experience. My role is all about providing a clear, concise strategy over the next five years."
