Movers and Shakers

Moving to its state of the art headquarters in 2010 was a bold move for Higgs & Sons, and one which required a great deal of planning.

“Our business had grown extensively throughout the first decade of the new century,” comments Ian Shovlin, head of Higgs’ Personal Injury team and senior partner at the time of the move. “We found that we had outgrown our four regional offices, not only in terms of space, but the facilities they were able to offer us as a forward thinking, innovative organisation.”

The solution was to find a bespoke headquarters within the firm’s heartland which could offer the space, technology and ‘future proofing’ that Higgs & Sons required. To help source and equip the right location, Higgs needed the support of the right partner.

Overbury is a market leading national fit out and refurbishment contractor. The company’s Birmingham team, based at Fort Dunlop, offered the perfect support to Higgs & Sons.
“Our brief was to bring the business into a modern era without losing its important heritage,” says Michele Clifton, account manager at Overbury. “I think the headquarters Higgs & Sons now occupies encapsulates all of that, and more.”

Higgs & Sons’ 30,000sq.ft. Waterfront headquarters sit on the site of the old Round Oak steelworks, a symbol of the region’s industrial heritage.

“Our move to the Waterfront was one of the most significant property deals to take place in the Midlands in 2010,” continues Ian. “It really did make people take notice of our progress in what were extremely challenging economic times.”

Following the firm’s headline move to the Waterfront in 2010, Higgs then closed its last remaining regional office in 2014 and further expanded into additional premises in the Waterfront Business Park. “Looking after our clients and developing long term relationships are values we share with Higgs & Sons,” continues Michele. “It has been a pleasure to work with them over the past six years as their business has gone from strength to strength.”

“We purposely took our time to find the right location for the business,” explains managing partner Paul Hunt. “We wanted somewhere that reflected our ambitions and our desire to provide a holistic service to our clients, all from under one roof.

“With Overbury’s help we have created a unique, fit for purpose headquarters that not only reflects our heritage, but is ideally suited to meet our future requirements as we look forward with real optimism to the next stage of the Higgs & Sons story.”
