Higgs volunteers join Mayor for tree planting

West Midlands law firm Higgs & Sons got their hands dirty this week after helping out a community tree planting, attended by the Mayor of Dudley.

The three volunteers from the Black Country based firm joined the Friends of Marsh Park and Lawyer’s Field in Brierley Hill to plant 30 mixed fruit trees – including apples, pears, cherries, plums, crab-apples and quince - to create an orchard for the whole community to enjoy.

Working with Dudley Council Parks Development Officer, the project has already seen five raised beds built and planted, the erection of a compost bin, noticeboard and two benches.

The Higgs volunteers Helen Dunn, Rob Burke and Charlotte Lampitttook part in the planting as part of the firm’s commitment to Business in the Community, a business-led charity with more than 30 years' experience.

Tim Jones, a Partner at Higgs and Head of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, said: “Our volunteers had a great morning planting trees for the community, which was a fantastic experience for all involved.

“The orchard, and the garden itself, is set to be a wonderful facility that can be enjoyed by everyone, getting them involved in healthy growing and eating.”

The volunteers were joined by Councillor Dave Tyler, Mayor of Dudley, and children from Brockmore Primary School.

Higgs & Sons is one of the Midlands' leading law firms and is headquartered at the Waterfront Business Park in the heart of the Black Country. A modern, forward thinking practice which employs more than 230 people offering a wide range of legal services, Higgs is proud of its heritage and remains true to its client centred values and commitment to quality.
