First fundraiser for Charity of the Year

Colleagues from Black Country law firm Higgs & Sons have completed their first of four fundraisers for the firm’s Charity of the Year 2019, Wombourne Special Needs Support Group (WINGS).

They joined staff and families supported by the charity for a walk at the WINGS centre as well as taking part in a cake bake and tombola.

WINGS was founded by a small group of parents of children with special needs. Based in Wombourne, it has a growing membership of parents/carers of children and adults with a wide variety of special needs in the South Staffs, Dudley and Wolverhampton areas and runs activities for children as well as providing respite for carers.

In January, Higgs & Sons handed over more than £22,500 to charity, with half of that total going to the 2018 Charity of the Year, Dudley Mind.

The firm hopes to top that total this year through a wide variety of fun fundraising activities. These include the WINGS Summer Fun Day, supermarket bag packing and the WINGS sponsored Christmas present wrapping.

Tim Jones, Partner and Head of the Corporate Social Responsibility programme at Higgs, said: “Choosing to focus our fundraising on a local charity proved a huge success for us last year, and we are delighted to do the same again this year.

“WINGS is a small charity doing a big job: the support they provide to children is amazing while the respite they offer families is invaluable.

“We are delighted to support the charity and look forward to raising much needed funds for such a good cause.”

Simon Lilley of WINGS said: “WINGS provides a much loved and valued service for the community but can only do so thanks to generous financial support.

“We can’t thank Higgs & Sons enough for choosing us as their Charity of the Year and look forward to working with them on all the fundraisers we have planned.”

Higgs & Sons' CSR programme supports a range of projects throughout the region each year. As well as selecting a dedicated charity, Higgs employees also provide hands on support to many other organisations, committing time and resources in support of the work they do within the Black Country and the wider West Midlands.

Tim Jones added: “We look forward to working alongside WINGS to raise much needed funds and awareness of the work they carry out in our community.”
