National Road Victim Month

1st August 2019

National Road Victim Month

August is National Road Victim Month.  This was founded by Roadpeace, who are a leading road accident charity in the UK. Roadpeace designated August as National Road Victim Month following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales on 31 August 1997.

August sees the highest number of deaths on British roads.

So, why do so many road collisions occur in August?

  • During the school holidays more children often play near roads.
  • Drivers are more likely to be travelling on unfamiliar roads heading to airports or holiday destinations.
  • Drivers can be more distracted than usual due to other drivers or increased passengers in the vehicle.
  • Drivers are distracted by smartphones/Sat Nav

At Higgs & Sons, our lawyers work with many victims of road collisions and their families.  Our key focus is to facilitate a number of support services following a serious injury or bereavement.

Many victims do not realise the impact a collision can have on their physical and mental health:

  • Victims are at an increased risk for a wide range of psychiatric disorders following a collision.
  • Physical injuries can impact a victims’ day to day life, many victims may need to take time off work and rehabilitation assistance may be required to aid recovery.

For more advice or guidance please contact a member of the personal injury team on 0345 111 5050 or submit an online enquiry via the Higgs & Sons website.
