Young Carers Awareness Day - 30th January 2020

Research shows that as many as one in five secondary school children may be a young carer - sometimes their caring journey begins at an even younger age.

Caring for someone can be lonely and stressful no matter what the carer’s age, but for young carers it can also have a negative impact on their education and quality of life, leaving a lasting effect on their life chances.

Thousands of young carers are forced to grow up early and often find themselves missing out on the opportunities that other children might have. Finding time to play with friends can prove difficult due to their caring responsibilities.

Young Carers Awareness Day is an annual event organised by The Carers Trust and this year takes place on Thursday, January 30th. Its aim is to bring awareness and recognition to those children and young adults who are young carers.

The Carers Trust has launched their Count Me In! Campaign which calls on compulsory education providers to proactively identify young carers and make sure that they receive the recognition and support they need for a good education and a decent quality of life.

Higgs & Sons understand the importance of the role that a young carer provides and values the work that the charity does.
