Heterosexual couples now able to register for civil partnerships

Opposite-sex couples are now able to have their relationships recognised in law as a civil partnership, a legal right previously reserved for same-sex couples.

If you and your partner have decided against marriage, a civil partnership is a way to ensure you have access to the range of benefits available as civil partnerships carry the same benefits as marriage when it comes to tax, pensions and inheritance. Co-habitation, however long-standing, does not give you any of these entitlements.

For advice on civil partnerships, please contact our family team on 01384 327100.
