Higgs & Sons Charity and Not for Profit team are hosting thier 'Annual Charity Conference' (webinar) for charity trustees on 9 December from 12.00 pm until 2.00 pm.

Speakers and Topics

  • Legal issues for Trustees in light of Covid-19
Kirsty McEwen - Partner and Head of Charity and Not for Profit, Higgs & Sons

Covid-19 has created unparalleled challenges for organisations.  From having to adapt to new ways of working whilst continuing to provide front line services, to an increase in the need for beneficiary support, to pressures on finances due to a loss of income, to having to consider restructuring in a bid to ensure survival.

Kirsty will examine the key legal changes that have arisen as a result of the pandemic, focusing on changes relating to the insolvency rules, good governance in the administration of organisations, including the running of meetings and serious incident reporting, as well as looking at the regulatory approach of the Charity Commission and other regulators to the administration and management of organisations in these ever changing times.

  • Digital: the tool to help charities thrive in a post Covid-19 world
Matt Haworth - Founder, Reason Digital

Covid-19 forced the world to adopt digital in a whole new way, charities and not for profits included. But as the dust (slowly) settles on the pandemic, there is huge potential in the sector to maximise on the opportunity that digital provides. But we can’t all do everything. Matt Haworth, will break down the tools and tactics for organisations to focus and capitalise on with real life sector examples to inspire you along the way.

  • Accounting, funding and financial control related issues
Simon Atkins -  Partner and Head of Risk, Cooper Parry

Simon will explore accounting and funding issues for organisations  in light of Covid-19, focussing on how to manage reserves, considerations on disclosures, issues relating to going concern and forecasting, as well as looking at emergency funding and what the Charity Commission expects of organisations at this time.

  • Cyber risk post Covid-19
John Clarke - Cyber Risk Consultant - UK Retail, Gallagher

A change in the way we now work in light of Covid-19 has brought new challenges for charities and not for profits in terms of cyber risk.  John will explore some of the current and emerging risks for organisations and consider how they can adapt to protect themselves from an ever changing risk landscape.
